Our Lady Good Counsel

From the Desk of Fr. Pascual

5th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee ”

We heard from last Sunday’s Gospel account about Jesus’ way of overcoming the power of Satan. Through his words with authority gave healing to the possessed man. With his authority he can do all things, command and conquer, restore and heal, calms everyone’s fear and anxiety and saves the troubled soul. Thus, he went around the whole of Galilee to do this. His preaching, his words and his mission were evidences of his power as God bringing life to all.

In a world where things seem to be just ordinary, we don’t realize that God’s Word becomes ordinary as well. We take his Word for granted that we miss or fail to realize the power in it. Job took comfort in God in the midst of all his loss and pain. He suffered so much to the point of giving up his faith in Him. He was tested and in his struggle he found more comfort in God’s word and held on to him for the rest of his life. What a way for us to reflect on. We loose hope many times and we resort to a lot of things that fail us in the end. We don’t realize that through God’s Word we are comforted, assured and restored. That is why we notice that Jesus had been flocked by many because of his preaching, his words that give life. His words are spirit and life.

Do we allow God’s word in our lives work, as it should? Are we formed by it and manifest it in our daily lives? When God talks to us, do we listen or are we the one who keeps on talking that we fail to hear him speak to our lives? Let us remember the events in Sacred Scripture how God’s word had been powerful in the lives of those who listen and believe in Him. If it work then it continues on today because His words never end.

Help Renovate 150 Vacant Public Housing Units

The Office of Social Ministry and Affordable Housing seeks your help in February 2012 to renovate 150 Va-cant Public Housing Units. This is one of the many ways in which we can help those who are homeless and have a place to stay especially the children. Not only that we have a wonderful time thinking of the outcome we put into but also it is an opportunity for us to realize that we put our faith into action through this act of charity. Our contact person in our parish is Dallas Carter, our Young Adult Director. Call the parish office if you and your family are interested to extend a helping hand.

Bank for Education: Refer-A-Friend

In December of 2011, I printed out in my section asking for support to the Bank for Education: Refer a Friend Contest initiated by the American Savings Bank. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who heeded our call for support. I am so delighted to know from our Principal, Mrs. Cindy Olaso and gladly to announce to you parishioners of OLGC that our School won the first prize from this contest. The school will now be able to provide necessary materials and projects for the benefit of our children and our commu-nity. Congratulations OLGC School. May the Good Lord continue to bless all of you who supported in one-way or the other in this contest.
