Our Lady Good Counsel

NEWS FROM THE PARISH BULLETIN

Novena to Reverse HHS Mandate

Father, You unite the human family through the blood of Your Son Jesus Christ and the gift of the Holy Spirit. At this time of need, when Your Church and all Your people are called to stand firm against injustices inflicted on us from our government, we ask you to strengthen us in the bond of unity. Strengthen the unity of Your Church, that none of Your faithful may be on the sidelines, but that everyone may be active in this battle. Give Church leaders the grace to discern the many varieties of the working of Your Spirit that they may fan into flame the gifts that the Spirit bestows freely on Your people. And give us the wisdom to know that no group has a monopoly on the defense of life and freedom. May we work in an ecumenical and inter-religious spirit and welcome the efforts of all people of good will who believe in freedom of religion and conscience. We pray through Chris our Lord. Amen From  www.standupforreligiousfreedom.com

Operation Rice Bowl Reflection

The New Covenant

In today’s first reading, the prophet Jeremiah describes a new covenant one which is written on our hearts. As Christians, we believe that this new covenant is fulfilled in Jesus. This week through Operation Rice Bowl, we learn about malnourished children and expectant mothers in India whose health has been compromised by their poverty. We pray that we may open our hearts to the needs of the poor and vulnerable. We fast, not merely from our excess, but from our very substance, so that new life may come to all who suffer from poverty, illness and injustice. We give so that CRS-trained health care workers can help improve the lives of women and children throughout the world.

Good Friday Collection

Submitted by the Office of the Bishop

Christians around the world are united in a special way during Lent, Holy Week and Easter. Our hearts, minds and prayers are also especially aware of the Holy Land. Our parish, once a year on Good Friday, is called on to support Christians in the Holy Land. Many Christians in the Holy Land depend on the collection for their lives. As a pontifical collection requested by Pope Benedict XVI, the annual Good Friday collection offers a direct link for parishioners to be witnesses of peace and to help protect the Holy Places. When you donate on Good Friday, you are supporting Christians in the Holy Land. Franciscans and others in the Holy Land are housing and feeding the poor, providing formation and education, maintaining shrines and parishes and conducting pastoral ministry. For more information, visit  www.myfranciscan.org The Good Friday collection is requested by the Holy Father. Please be as generous as your abundance allows.

Pray for our Confirmation Youth Candidates

The high school youths with our Confirmation II will be going on retreat next weekend. We ask the prayers of our parishioners for a safe and faith filled weekend for our youths and continued blessings on their spiritual journeys. If you have a moment. Please stop by the adoration chapel to spend time with the Blessed Sacrament and offer a prayer for the candidates and the retreat team members. There is a prayer board located in the chapel if you wish to add a statement of encouragement for the youths. The board will be presented to the youths upon their return to let them know their parish family has been praying for them also.
